First remove the air cleaner assembly. Then remove the engine strut mount. Rotate the tensioner pulley clockwise to release the tension and remove the belt. Look over all the pulleys and make sure they are not damage and are free of any debris or fluids.

Installation:

Route the serpentine belt according the diagram provided around all of the pulleys leaving the tensioner for last. While keeping tension on the belt rotate the tensioner pulley again to release the tension and slip the belt over it. Look over all pulleys and double check that the belt is aligned on every pulley correctly.

Here is the serpentine belt diagram for a 1996-1998 Chevy truck with the 4.3, 5.0 and 5.7 liter engine. Removing the belt is very simple. Using breaker bar and a socket that fits the center bolt of the tensioner pulley, rotate the tensioner to create slack on the belt and slip it off the tensioner pulley. Inspect all of the pulleys and make sure they are free of any dirt, debris or fluids.

To replace the belt, route the belt according to the diagram posted above leaving the tensioner pulley for last. Rotate the tensioner pulley again with your breaker bar and socket and slip the belt of the tensioner. Inspect all pulleys and make sure the belt is aligned correctly on each.

Mobile users click here to view diagram.

Simply rotate the tensioner pulley and slip the old belt off.
Check all of your pulleys and make sure there is no debris on any of them.
Slip the belt over all of the pulleys leaving the tensioner pulley for last.
Make sure the belt is properly on all the other pulleys, rotate the tensioner pulley and slide the new belt over it.
Inspect the entire belt to make sure that it is on every pulley correctly.
You can rotate the tensioner pulley a little to relieve tension enough to make any adjustments to your belt.
