2001 Dodge Intrepid Serpentine belt-3.2L and 3.5L engines
Below is the diagram for the 3.2L and 3.5L engines.
When removing the belt, first take out the negative battery cable from the battery. This will prevent any potential impact to the metal wire and parts when rotating the belt and the system. Then rotate belt tensioner counter-clockwise until it contacts the full stop. Finally, remove the belt and slowly rotate the tensioner into the freearm position. Make sure the tensioner arm would snap back to the free arm position. This could cause a sever damage to the tensioner.
When installing the belt, it should be routed correctly, otherwise you will have emergency situation due to the engine overheat as the water pump will rotate in the wrong direction.
Install new belt by routing the belt around all pulleys except the idler pulley.
Rotate the tensioner arm until it contacts it’s stop position.
Route the belt around the idler and slowly let the tensioner rotate into the belt.
